I was saving up this quick Paleo dessert to deliver one final Paleo game day recipe for your Super Bowl menu.

Paleo Dessert Cocoa-Nut Apples

I’ve made this Cocoa-Nut Apple dessert three times this week.

The first time I made it I threw a bunch of ingredients together and served them on apples because apples are the perfect delivery system.

Since it was so delicious the first time, I decided to make them again and actually measure, so I could share.

The third time these were made this week were by special request, because Jeff just couldn’t get enough! :)

And now that I’m out of apples, it’s your turn to enjoy them.

This dessert is perfect for those with tree-nut allergies because they’re tree-nut free!

These Cocoa-Nut Apples are both Vegetarian and Vegan friendly. Plus they’re completely raw, so they pretty much are the perfect dessert to serve for company. And I mean come on, who doesn’t enjoy chocolate?!

Unless you’re currently reducing your sugar intake, then you should not have even clicked the link to look at a dessert recipe. Shame on you. You should be looking at meat, like this Paleo Pot Roast.

Feel free to replace the cacao nibs with some dark chocolate or mini chocolate chips (like Enjoy Life). And you may want to double the recipe because by the time you finish off this serving, you’ll be licking the bowl clean and begging for more. :)

Quick Paleo Dessert: Cocoa-Nut Apples

Yield: 2 Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups coconut flakes
  • 2 tablespoons cacao powder
  • 1 tablespoon cacao nibs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup, grade B
  • 1 organic green apple

Directions

  1. In a medium sized mixing bowl add coconut flakes, cacao powder, cacao nibs, cinnamon, nutmeg and maple syrup. Stir well, for 2-3 minutes, until the maple syrup is fully combined and the dry mixture starts to turn wet from the syrup.
  2. Clean and dry the apple. Thinly slice the apple starting from the outside and working your way toward the center. Repeat on the other side. Then lay the apple flat on one of the cut sides and chop thin slices of the remaining sides of the apple core. (Polish off whatever's left on the core by transferring directly to your mouth - watch for seeds.) :)
  3. Transfer the sliced apple to a serving tray.
  4. Pour the cocoa-nut mixture on top of each apple.
  5. Now you can serve them right away or let them sit for an hour or longer to let the coconut flake mixture soften, totally up to you. (I couldn't wait that long and neither could Jeff.)
  6. Enjoy! :)
