My friend Andria was coming over for dinner and I wanted to make a dessert to go with the stir fry dinner I was serving. I knew she was vegetarian and I had a craving for some chocolate chip cookies so I whipped up these Vegetarian Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies for our dessert.

I’m sure some of you long-time Paleo Porn Family Members know that chocolate chip cookies are my favorite.

I’ve shared an egg-free chocolate chip cookie recipe in the past, but not one that is also dairy-free. Since I’ve removed all dairy from my diet, including grass-fed butter, I thought some of y’all would appreciate this updated recipe.

Where To Find Dark Chocolate Chips

I would HIGHLY recommend placing an order with Thrive Market and purchasing some bags of Enjoy Life Foods dark chocolate morsels. These dark chocolate chips are 69% cacao and are also nut-free, soy-free and dairy-free.

If you don’t order these chocolate chips online you can also find them at Whole Foods.

Alternatively, if you purchase a soy-free and dairy-free chocolate bar, you can then use your chef’s knife to chop the chocolate into chunks. Sometimes this is also a cheaper option than buying chocolate morsels.

Dairy Free Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies

Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies (Egg & Dairy Free)

Yield: 16-18 cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 cups blanched almond flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup organic 100% vegetable shortening
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° F.
  2. Add almond meal, baking soda and sea salt to a large mixing bowl and combine well with a spoon.
  3. Add coconut oil to a small saucepan and melt over low heat.
  4. Add melted coconut oil, vegetable shortening, raw honey and vanilla extract to the almond meal bowl. Mix well until fully combined.
  5. Add chocolate chunks and mix into almond mixture.
  6. With a teaspoon, scoop small amounts of dough into your hands, roll together to form a ball, lay on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet or a baking stone, flatten with your hand and repeat until you run out of dough.
  7. Bake for 7-10 minutes, transfer to a baking rack, repeat until all dough is gone.
  8. Pop a few in your mouth while they're warm, dunk in your favorite type of milk (if you prefer) and don't be surprised if they're all gone before the second batch is done in the oven.
  9. Enjoy! :)
