Avocados are one of my top three favorite ingredients to work with (behind onions and garlic).
I know what you’re thinking. Avocados…for dessert?
They are such a versatile fruit! They make salads delicious, are great in smoothies and are rich and creamy enough to be the base ingredient for Paleo Chocolate Mousse.

If you’ve been Paleo for a while you’ll be familiar with this recipe. Or if you’ve dined at meat, you may also be familiar with this Paleo dessert. However for anyone new to experimenting with their food, I’m happy to introduce this little bowl of yum!
If you are following us on Periscope, you may have seen us preparing this recipe for the blog. When Jeff & I were at therapy together (him for his broken hand and me for my broken finger), we were talking to our physical therapist about different desserts she could prepare during their vacation. Ones that her celiac sister could also enjoy.
This was one recipe that I rattled off the top of my head and when I went to tell her the recipe, I promised I would just add it to the blog for her to refer back to. We came home and whipped it up, while on Periscope and now it’s ready for you to give it a go Sherry (if you haven’t already)!
I hope you (and your sister) get a chance to enjoy this one. :)
More About Avocados
Avocados provide an extremely rich, buttery texture to any dish. Using it as the base for this dessert will provide a perfectly creamy texture that might surprise you.
Although avocados are a fruit, they’re not known for their sweetness. That’s where the honey comes in. Just a couple teaspoons is enough to provide the sweetness you look for in desserts, without causing a massive sugar rush that will lead to a crash. The fat from the avocados will also help keep your blood sugar even.
Are Avocado’s Related To Cauliflower?
You might also be surprised at how well the avocado pairs with the cocoa powder. Similar to cauliflower, in the fact that they’re both a blank canvas for seasoning and changing the flavor to match what you’re looking to produce, avocados also take on the flavors of stronger ingredients they’re paired with. The chocolate complements the avocado perfectly and with a sprinkle of crushed pistachios on top this provides a crunchy texture to top off the luxuriously smooth mousse.
The only thing better than a healthy dessert is one you can share with your friends! Make this when you’re having friends over, bring it to a potluck or prepare while on vacation!
Whether you’re gluten-free, celiac, paleo, vegetarian or just a regular joe-shmoe off the street, most anyone will enjoy this little dessert. And you don’t even have to admit that it’s healthy.
