I have nothing against eggs, I just ran out and I wanted to celebrate our anniversary last week with some kind of quick dessert: enter chocolate chip cookies, exit eggs and BOOM! Paleo Cookies were ready in less than 30 minutes. :)
On Friday Jeff & I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary and 13 years together by heading downtown to meet up with some friends who were in town for a feast of a celebration. After leaving home at the time our train was supposed to leave the station and luckily having it running late, we boarded in the knick of time with about 50 other people who were waiting (yes, that’s a lot!). We jumped on the train and to our surprise it was absolutely beyond capacity, and we had no idea why. Where normally two people sit in a seat there were 3-4 people, the aisles were full and luckily we found a car where we could stand as the train traveled and continued to pick up even more people, all the way into town. After a few minutes we realized that it was Lollapalooza weekend.
The day of our wedding Lollapalooza was going on and when we drove into the city to take pictures we got caught up in all sorts of traffic, and you’d think since it happens every year on the same weekend, I would have remembered. :p
When we got to Ogilvie Station Jeff & I walked around the French Market before heading over to our first stop. After a little remote work to process a few emails, Tom & Craig showed up and we started on what I deemed our Lollapafoodza feast! You see, Craig is quite the foodie (I mean you could say all of us are) but Craig created the list of places we were going to hit up, restaurants that at some time had fallen onto a “best of _______” list.
Our first stop was Au Cheval for burgers. The second stop was supposed to be Franks ‘n Dawgs but we were diverted since they closed the storefront to attend Lollapalooza all weekend. So the official second stop was Crisp for wings and our final stop was at Twin Anchors for ribs.
My overall thoughts…
- The ribs from Twin Anchors were just OK, nothing super amazing that knocked my socks off.
- I’m a sucker for wings. They land on my grocery list pretty much every time I place an order with U.S. Wellness Meats. At Crisp, we ordered four different types of wings. By far my favorite seasoning was the Seoul Sassy, a combination of ginger, soy, garlic and other select spices. Although this wasn’t a paleo meal, the chicken is fresh (never frozen), hormone free and the wings were not cooked in trans-fat oil (so that was a plus).
- Bringing up the number one spot of the day was Au Cheval with the single cheeseburger with bacon topped with an egg. Whether you hold the bun (like I did) or not, it’s fabulous! Not only is the food delicious but when the waiter/waitress takes the order he/she will ask if there’s any allergies to be aware of in the kitchen, so they’re very conscientious and accommodating. You won’t find that everywhere you go.
We finished off the night with these delicious chocolate chip cookies.
