Milkshakes are just milk and sugar that have been blended together with various flavorings. Ice cream is often used, and even when it’s not, the result is rarely far off from ice cream. Milk is usually not considered Paleo, and ice cream and sugar are never considered Paleo, so we can’t include milkshakes.
Paleo and Sugar
Milk is already pretty high in sugar, and even those who can tolerate dairy sometimes avoid it because it can cause a sugar high followed by a crash. Add extra sugar to the milk, and you’re sure to get on a blood sugar roller coaster, and it can be pretty hard to get off those.
Despite the high sugar content, many companies have been touting their shakes as “healthy” because they’re low-fat. They advertise the fat percentage and no one pays attention to the sugar content. Thankfully, there are people like Mark Sisson to point these things out to us.
