The Health Benefits of Alliums
Studies have shown that garlic and onions in particular have strong antioxidant properties and there is evidence that shows they may even help protect against cancer. In one study, sulfur derived from onions improved glucose tolerance in rats (source). Of course, humans and rats are not identical, but if the rats benefited from the sulfur found in onions, there’s a pretty good chance that we reap a lot of the same benefits.
