If you haven’t figured it out already, I hate to be the one to tell you S’mores aren’t Paleo. I know they’re delicious. I still have many fond memories of roasting marshmallows around a fire with my family when I was growing up, smooshing them between two graham crackers and a hunk of Hershey’s chocolate and biting into that sweet, gooey mess! Some of my fondest memories involve S’mores, but I don’t think anyone can pretend they are healthy.
Sugar + Sugar + Sugar
S’mores are loaded with sugar, sandwiched in between sugar, with more sugar thrown in for good measure. Hershey’s may provide us with cheap chocolate, but that’s only because the ingredients they use are cheap. They use low-quality chocolate (i.e. low in the minerals and antioxidants that make chocolate a health food) and they pump it full of sugar, often in the form of high fructose corn syrup, which is detrimental to our health.
Sugar As Crackers
Graham Crackers are just as bad. They’re made of grains (including wheat) that spike our blood sugar, increase intestinal permeability (letting toxins and undigested foods into our bloodstream), and cause inflammation and nutrient deficiencies.
