Bee pollen is the plant pollen that gets stuck to bees’ hairy legs as they go from plant to plant collecting nectar. It gets mixed in with honey and nectar and rolled into little balls. These balls can then be taken as a supplement or used as a topping on desserts.
The Benefits
Since bee pollen is all natural, there’s no reason it can’t be included as part of a Paleo lifestyle, but there’s no reason to go out of your way to include it either. It does include various nutrients, including protein, various B-vitamins, fatty acids, and minerals, but since you’re probably not eating bee pollen by the spoonful, it’s unlikely that you’ll get any significant nutrition from bee pollen.
Possible Note of Concern
The only reason for caution is if you have hay fever. Because bee pollen is just plan pollen combined with other bee products, it has been known to induce allergies in those with hay fever.
