Fish is Meat
Catfish is fish (which is meat), so there’s no reason it can’t be included as part of a healthy Paleo diet. They have a pretty good fatty acid profile, with a fair amount of saturated and monounsaturated fat. They also contain omega-3 fats, which is the good kind of polyunsaturated fats that we like for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Farmed vs. Wild-Caught
Farmed catfish tends to have a higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 than wild-caught, but American-farmed catfish is still pretty safe. If you’re worried about the differences between wild caught and farmed, wild caught is only slightly better and American-farmed is probably the safest of the farmed varieties. Other countries (such as China) tend to raise their farmed fish in polluted waters.
