Eggnog can be Paleo-friendly, but as usual, you’re better off making your own. The store-bought stuff probably has more sugar than anything else, and you definitely want to stay away from that.
What It Is
Essentially, eggnong is just cream, egg yolks, and some sweetener and flavorings. The primary seasoning is nutmeg, which is absolutely Paleo, so feel free to load up on the nutmeg (and cinnamon, too, if you choose to include it).
If you make your own, you can use Paleo-approved sweeteners, such as honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar and moderate the amount used so you don’t get a massive sugar rush. Even cream can be Paleo, if you can tolerate dairy. If not, you can use coconut milk or almond milk.
