What It Is
Jam is a type of fruit preserve that generally consists of both fruit and fruit juice that has been cooked, jelled, and then pureed. It’s an ancient form of preserving fruit through the winter, but if you need jam in your life, you should really make your own.
Sugar + Sugar = Disaster
Store-bought jams tend to have a ton of sugar added. Fruit is already pretty high in sugar, so adding more sugar is just a recipe for disaster. Diets high in sugar have already been linked to increased inflammation, cortisol (the hormone the body produces when under stress), and weight gain (in the form of fat).
For a savory option, try bacon jam.
