For decades, the media has been trying to tell us that consuming lots of red meat will surely give us cancer and/or heart disease, leading to an untimely death. Fortunately for us meat-lovers, there is absolutely no scientific evidence to back this up.
A Nutrient-Dense Food
In fact, red meat is one of the most nutritious foods we can eat. It comes loaded with iron and other minerals, such as niacin and zinc, not to mention a host of B vitamins (vegetarians and vegans always have to supplement vitamins like B12, because you can only get it from animal sources). Lamb in particular is an excellent source of protein and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a compound that is thought to have antioxidant properties and may even be able to help fight off cancer (so much for red meat causing cancer).
So just ignore that person giving you the stink-eye as you order your lamb shoulder. They don’t know what they’re missing.
