Millet is a type of grain. The part we eat is the seed of a grass plant and they have very little nutritional benefit.
Nutrients We Can’t Use
Like all grains, millet contains a few minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium. However, millet also contains antinutrients that prevent these nutrients from being bioavailable, meaning our bodies can’t take advantage of them.
Paleo and Carbohydrates
Add to that the fact that millet is also extremely high in carbohydrates (about as high as wheat) and there are plenty of reasons to avoid it.
Why Avoid Grains
If you need more reasons to avoid grains, Mark Sisson has no shortage of them.
