Miso is a fermented soy paste and soy is definitely not Paleo-friendly. It’s almost always a pesticide-laden GMO and it’s loaded with antinutrients like phytic acid, which interferes with mineral receptors in the body and is known to create mineral deficiencies.
The Benefits of Fermentation
Fermenting soy may be able to eliminate some of these antinutrients, but not all of them. It also makes certain nutrients more bioavailable, but that’s not enough to outweigh the negative health effects of eating soy.
Why Avoid Soy
Soy has also recently been found to have estrogenic and possibly even carcinogenic effects, and those findings are too disconcerting to be ignored.
Mark Sisson refused to give fermented soy his seal of approval.
