Herbs and spices are really good for you. They come loaded with antioxidants that help keep inflammation low and boost our immune systems, among other things. They protect fats from oxidation, which means they’re great for marinating fatty meats or cooking with butter or olive oil.
Herbs and spices also make our food delicious, which is not to be underestimated. No one is going to stick to a diet full of bland and boring food. By experimenting with herbs and spices you’ll make your food healthier as well as tastier.
What’s In It
Penzey’s Old World Seasoning is a blend of herbs and spices that can be used in just about any cuisine. Add it to chicken, beef, fish, or vegetables before baking or while stir-frying to get a flavorful meal. The list of ingredients includes paprika, salt, sugar, celery, garlic, onion, black pepper, parsley, dill seed, caraway, turmeric, dill weed, bay leaf, marjoram, thyme, savory, basil and rosemary. The only item of concern is the sugar, but since it’s only used for seasoning, the amount of sugar that ends up in your meal is negligible and largely counteracted by all the health benefits of the herbs and spices.
The Health Benefits
This sample chapter from Rich Food, Poor Food gives their top ten herbs and spices (several of which are included in Penzey’s Old World Seasoning) and their health benefits.
