Why Eat Prosciutto
Prosciutto is ham that has been cured and thinly sliced. Since ham is Paleo, there’s no reason not to include prosciutto. It’s an excellent way to add flavor to just about any meal, while getting a healthy dose of fat and protein in the process.
Paleo and Processed Meats
The only potential problem with prosciutto is that it is a a cured meat. It is generally salted and left to dry, and there is nothing wrong with that process. However, some companies add chemicals to help preserve the meat and give it color. The bottom line is that prosciutto can be an excellent addition to a Paleo meal, so long as you do your research to make sure you’re getting only the good stuff.
Mark Sisson discussed the issue of whether cold cuts, such as prosciutto can be considered Paleo-friendly.
