Saffron is a spice and there are plenty of reasons to include spices in your diet. In addition to making your food delicious, they tend to come with specific pharmacological effects, although most doctors won’t admit it.

Saffron in particular, when taken as an extract, has been shown to reduce appetite and aid in weight loss. It’s even been shown to be effective against depression. Other studies have shown that saffron can be effective in reversing age-related macular degeneration and, like most spices, help prevent metabolic syndrome.
