Tempeh is basically fermented tofu. We know tofu is not Paleo, but we also know that fermenting foods helps eliminate some of the anti-nutrients and make certain nutrients more bioavailable. Does this mean we can include tempeh as part of a healthy Paleo lifestyle?
The Problems With Soy
Afraid not. Soy is still estrogenic and the recent studies demonstrating its carcinogenic effects shouldn’t be overlooked. It’s also a highly processed food and you’re almost always better off buying raw, unprocessed foods, and preparing them yourself. Often, you can even ferment them yourself, as is the case with kombucha or sauerkraut.
