For two paleo foodies on the go, nothing hits the spot like a tasty burger joint!
Shaka Shack Burgers
1701 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90405
Of course, it all depends on where the burgers come from.
McDonald’s is not going to cut it, and you may want to head straight to In-N-Out Burger after landing at LAX but if you find yourself in Los Angeles County, we recommend giving Shaka Shack Burgers in Santa Monica a go. Flavorful, grass-fed beef burgers await you in a comfortable surf-themed place.

Surf Shop Or Burger Joint?
As beach-starved Midwesterners (Lake Michigan just doesn’t cut it when you’ve got the ocean at your finger tips), we went to the beach every day while we were in Los Angeles.
If you’ve been to Hawaii, you may be familiar with the relaxing vibe Shaka Shack has created. Because relaxing on the beaches of Kauai is instantly where this restaurant transported me to.
After my first-ever surfing lesson we spent the rest of the day relaxing in the sun on Venice Beach.
When we got hungry, I popped out my trusty guide, Google, and did a quick search to find some place for us to eat.
Embrace Your Inner Surfer And Relax With A Burger
Shaka Shack is the perfect post-beach place because it’s all surfer themed!
There’s a little tiki bar and little tiki guys all over the place. I even caught Jeff in the midst of his tiki dude impersonation. ;) They even had cute little tiki ketchup and mustard bottles. The place was definitely totally tiki’d out, which was really fun & relaxing.

The table we ate on was made from a wooden surfboard and there was surfboard art all over the walls, an old fashioned plastic-covered couch, and plastic chairs to sit and read Surfer magazine.
Tell Me About The Food
We both wanted to try the grass-fed burgers and as usual, we opted to go bunless.
For starters we ordered two Shaka burgers, which are grass-fed angus burgers with all the fixings wrapped in a lettuce wrap. Jeff was really hungry so after he devoured his first burger, he ordered a second.
After his Shaka, he got the Kobe Kahuna, which is one of their biggest burgers. It’s a half pound of kobe beef with wasabi mayo, red leaf lettuce, swiss cheese, and portobello mushroom.
We felt really good about this place because the beef was all grass-fed. When you walk in they have a flier for Tallgrass Beef, the ranch where they source their grass-fed beef from.
They did have sweet potato fries, but we weren’t sure what they cooked them in, so we decided to go for a salad instead.
Remember: If you don’t know what the restaurant is using to cook your food, you can always ask your server. :)
We hadn’t had any greens that day, so we got a salad instead of fries, but it wasn’t your typical green salad.
We got the Asian slaw, which was red and white cabbage, pineapple, cilantro, macadamia nuts, chili flakes, olive oil, and rice vinegar. It even came served on a very appropriate flower plate. The flavors and textures were a perfect pairing!
