Paleo Smoothie Recipes
I rarely drink smoothies but this is where you'll find those that I've created.
With how much sugar is consumed on a Standard American Diet (SAD), I can't recommend ever adding more sugar. And the same goes for those following a Paleo diet. That may sound harsh but if a smoothie has more fruit or sugar than you'd consume eating whole fruits, then it's simply too much.
How To Make A Paleo Smoothie
That said, if you're in the mood for a Paleo smoothie as a treat or want a quick drink to take on the go, below are some options.
Despite the recipes below, these are my general recommendations whenever creating a smoothie.
- Create one that doesn't consist of all fruit.
- Be sure that it is high in fat and includes organic greens like spinach, kale, parsley and/or other fresh herbs.
- Squeeze some fresh lemon or lime juice in and add avocado. Always add avocado.
- Use a single fresh or frozen fruit as your sweetener.
- Don't add additional sugars like honey or maple syrup unless it's necessary.
- Use water, coconut water, unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk or your choice of nut milk to make sure it's liquid-y.
- Finally, use ice to thicken and keep cold.
Overall, make sure your smoothie consists of mostly veggies and fat and fruit for sweetness. Following these tips will create a great high fat, low sugar Paleo smoothie with endless possibilities of flavors that will energize your day.
