A tale of two vampires and a bitter salad to complement the winter.
A little vampire story.
There once were two vampires who lived together in their little home. They lived and worked on their own hours. Every winter, when the sun shines for less time than summer, they rarely see the light. They go to sleep when the sun rises and wake up a few hours before the sun sets.
One day the lady vampire had had enough of the cold and decided it was time to soak in more vitamin D. The male vampire agreed. (Being vampires, typically you’d see a problem with this but they are just like everyone else, just more pasty-looking.)
The lady vampire booked a flight to Miami that left at 7am, thinking it would be perfect and they could sleep on the plane, but the male vampire thought otherwise. The male vampire then explained that keeping their same schedule, they’d likely not maximize their sun intake in Miami and had a better idea.
“What if we shift our sleep by only using natural light? When it gets dark we’ll leave the lights off, use candles, turn off our computers and we’ll get sleepy and be able to shift our sleep quicker!”
The lady vampire had her doubts, but played along. Friday night they shut down their computers early, read by candlelight for a couple hours, got sleepy and tucked into bed around 8pm. Three hours later both vampires awoke, fully rested, and ready for the new day. (Although it was still Friday, mind you.) The two vampires went slow to turn on the lights around the house, got lots of work done and had breakfast once the sun rose. Each vampire took a short nap during the day, but then when the sun set, they repeated the process. They were in bed by 8pm, and this time they woke up at 6am the next morning.
The vampire couple followed their typical schedule, working on their computers and turning the lights on when it got dark outside and this time, once 7pm rolled around, they were ready for bed.
Within a three-day period, they had turned their previous vampire schedule of going to bed at 7am and waking at 3pm completely around and were able to wake up at 4:30am to prepare for their 7am flight out.
Time for Some Salad
First, a quick tip! This recipe was based around bright colors. I shredded one whole head of purple cabbage and 3-6 carrots in my food processer. I combined both veggies together and stored them in a glass container in the fridge. I pre-chopped all the other vegetables for the week at the same time and transfered them to their own storage containers. Prepping ahead allowed me to grab a handful of pre-chopped veggies very quickly to make a salad and go.
This salad was a product of being prepared and it didn’t even need any dressing. Although feel free to drizzle some olive oil on top or add your own choice of dressing, if you think it’s necessary. :)
